Pokémon’s Charizard and Greninja will be playable characters in Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo announced on Tuesday, April 8.

In addition to Charizard and Greninja being available for gamers to play, other Pokémon characters and details will be a part of the new version of the popular game. The news was announced in Tuesday’s Nintendo Direct, whose entire 30 minutes was devoted to Super Smash Bros.

For those unfamiliar with the Pokémon in question, Greninja is an evolution of Froakie and first appeared in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Charizard is also an evolution of a beloved Pokémon character, Charmander, from the original Pokémon Blue and Pokémon Red.

Charizard and Greninja will join Pikachu and Lucario, two Pokémon who were already on the Super Smash Bros. roster.

In addition to Charizard and Greninja, this newest version of Super Smash Bros will include the return of Poké Balls, with appearances by accompanying characters Eevee, Metagross, Fennekin, Meloetta, Gogoat, Electrode, Meowth and Staryu.

Finally, Super Smash Bros will also feature the introduction of Master Balls, which will hold the most elusive Pokémon characters, such as Xerneas, Arceus, Deoxys, Palikia, Engei, Victini, Kyurem and Keldeo.

The Pokémon that appear via Poké Ball or Master Ball are not playable characters.

Super Smash Bros for 3DS will be released summer 2014, and Super Smash Bros on Wii U will be released in the winter.
