Piers Morgan Under Fire From British Parliament For Hacking Allegations
Piers Morgan, host of CNN's prime-time interview program Piers Morgan Tonight, is now under investigation in regards to his past as editor for Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.-owned publication The News of the World and his possible involvement with illegal wire-tapping.
In a hearing today before the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee of Parliament, Conservative member, Louise Mensch sited passages in Morgan's book, The Insider, where he described in detail the act of wire-tapping as, "That little trick of entering a standard four-digit code allows anyone to call that number and hear your messages." Mensch later described a passage where Morgan used this technique to gain information that he used in an award-winning piece he had written about, former England National Soccer Team General Manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Immediately after the hearing, Morgan took to his Twitter in order to clear his name. He wrote that these allegations were "complete nonsense" and that he has never "hacked a phone, told anyone to hack a phone or published any stories based on the hacking of a phone."
During his Monday night taping of Piers Morgan Tonight, Morgan took time to address the fact that he had indeed worked for The News of the World and The Daily Mirror for a number of years but had no involvement with any forms of wire-tapping or had authorized any other illegal means of gaining information.
