Pete Davidson, a rising standup comedy star in New York City, has been added to the cast of Saturday Night Live.

Pete Davidson Joins 'SNL'

The addition of Davidson, 20, was announced by Saturday Night Live from the show’s Twitter account on Monday morning. SNL confirmed the casting news to Deadline.

Davidson, a native of Staten Island, started performing standup when he was 16. He was discovered by Nick Cannon, who had a chance to catch the young comedian’s act in New York City. Cannon eventually had him as a series regular on his improv series Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out, which got Davidson noticed by MTV2, which cast him on Guy Code.

Davidson’s career got another boost when Fox signed him to a talent holding deal after watching him at Fox’s Night of Comedy. He subsequently made his TV acting debut on Andy Samberg’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine and landed a role on Fox comedy pilot Sober Companion that unfortunately wasn’t picked up. Most recently, Davidson made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live performing a standup routine.

In addition to Davidson, Lorne Michaels is welcoming Micahel Che onto the Saturday Night Live stage as a co-anchor on Weekend Update next to Colin Jost. Out of last year's six new featured players – Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Noël Wells, John Milhiser, Brooks Wheelan and Michael Patrick O’Brien – only Mooney and Bennett are returning as performers. O'Brien is moving back into the writers room, but Wells, Milihiser and Wheelan were all released in July. Sasheer Zamata, who joined the cast midway through SNL's 40th season, is expected to return.
