Paula Abdul Guest Judges 'Dancing With the Stars: All Stars'

There were few surprises on Tuesday night's episode of Dancing with the Stars as far as the contestants were concerned, with Gilles Marini and his partner Peta Murgatroyd tying with Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough in first place with scores of 39.5 out of 40 for their Bollywood and quickstep routines, respectively, and Bristol Palin and Kirstie Alley closing out the low scores with 32 and 30, respectively.

Instead, last night's surprises all happened behind the judge's table when Paula Adbul, 50, who was a hit for years judging American Idol alongside the difficult Simon Cowell before she fizzled on The X Factor last year, stopped by to guest judge the competition.

Abdul especially bonded with Bruno Tonioli, doing impressions of his British accent and bombastic demeanor, as well as endlessly touching him.

It was Kelly Monaco and her pro partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, however, who stole the hearts of the viewers with their accomplished and spirited modern performance set to Coldplay. Not only had Monaco broken her toe earlier in rehearsal, which Carrie Ann Inaba claimed only accentuated the deep emotion of the dance, but people are sensing a romance budding between Chmerkovskiy and Monaco, as well.

"What makes modern, or lyrical jazz so incredible is that it forces you to be in touch with your true emotions," said Inaba of Monaco's dance. "You laid your heart out there and the lines were beautiful to match. That took courage." Chmerkovskiy closed out the routine by carrying his wounded partner off the stage.
