There is some speculation as to whether or not No Bra Day is effective in supporting breast cancer awareness.

#NOBRADAY RAISES AWARENESS OF BREAST CANCER

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and today is supposedly No Bra Day, which is meant to aid in raising awareness for breast cancer. However, not everyone agrees that this is No Bra Day’s true purpose. While some have embraced this day in its effort to support an importance cause, others point out that there is no one officially sponsoring this day, and that it may merely be a hoax in order to get women to take topless selfies.

The International No Bra Day Facebook page posted this message on the site:

Ladies, free your breasts for 24 hours by removing those dreadful (but at times oh-so-helpful) bras. Our perkiness should not be hidden. It is time that the world see what we were blessed with.

Although it is possible that No Bra Day was initiated with good intent, it is also quite mysterious as there is no organization or fundraising campaign attached to it, such as with the Ice Bucket Challenge which raised $100 million for the ALS Association. No Bra Day has no such aspirations, and neither the American Cancer Society nor the National Cancer Institute are in association with #NoBraDay.
