The long-awaited third installment of the beloved Bridget Jones movies (and books) are here, with Renee Zellweger returning as the lead after 12 years.

The trailer reveals the dilemma of the movie which is not necessarily Bridget’s return to single living, as much as Bridget’s discovery that she is pregnant, and moreover, that she is not sure who the father is. Bridget Jones’s Baby is really a question of who else the baby belong’s to: her old flame, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth reprising his role) or the suave, American newcomer, Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey).

Reportedly, to ensure that movie goers would not know the identity of the father three different endings to the movie were filmed. Even the cast, as Zellweger told the Sunday Express, does not know who fathered Bridget’s baby or which man she will choose, if any.

“The plan is to keep us all in the dark,” said Zellweger, “right up to the premiere.”

The film also features a cameo from Ed Sheeran (depicted in the trailer) and Emma Thompson, who is also a writer of the movie, playing Bridget’s obstetrician. Sharon Maguire, the director of the first movie in 2001, is directing this installment.

Although this is a continuation of the 2004 sequel, The Edge of Reason, it is not based on Helen Fielding‘s third novel, Mad About the Boy. At the end of The Edge of Reason, Bridget was set to live happily ever after with Darcy.

Find out what went wrong on Sept. 16.
