Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf Knew Extorter Jared James Abrahams From High School

09/27/2013

Cassidy Wolf, the reigning Miss Teen USA who was sexually extorted by a webcam hacker, revealed that suspect Jared James Abrahams attended high school with her.

"It's weird for me to be able to put a face to the person who did this to me, and that it was a person I went to high school with," Wolf said on NBC’s Today. "I don't think he realizes the consequences that he's done and the people that he hurt," she added. "He terrorized me and many girls for so long."

Abrahams was arrested on Thursday for allegedly “sextorting” a number of women, including the pageant winner. The 19-year-old computer science major admitted to hacking into his victims' computers, using their webcams to take both photos and video recordings of them in various states of undress and then blackmailing him the images and videos he obtained. Abrahams most recently had 30-40 “slave computers” – compared to his peak of roughly 150 – which he would use in his alleged “sextortion” of young females. Wolf is the only alleged victim Abrahams claims to have known.

Wolf first reported a suspected hacking back in March, telling officials that her social media passwords had been changed and that her Twitter avatar had been replaced by a semi-nude photograph of herself that she had not taken, the FBI said, reported KTLA. She was subsequently sent a threatening email that demanded she send nude pictures and videos of herself or suffer consequences of more nude photos of herself showing up on the Internet.

Wolf only recently was made aware that her terrorizer was the Jared James Abrahams that she’d passed by in the hallways of her Temecula, California high school. Although the two weren’t friends, or even acquaintances, Wolf was familiar with her classmate and has expressed a degree of compassion for him.

Abrahams was released on $50,000 bond, and will remain under pretrial supervision and electronically monitored home detention until his arraignment on Nov. 4.
