'Mirror Mirror' Was Not Original Title, Director Tarsem Singh Says
Mirror Mirror, directed by Tarsem Singh (Immortals), stars Lilly Collins as the fair-skinned heroine and Julia Roberts as her wicked, scheming stepmother. It ought not to be confused with Snow White & The Huntsman, due out later this year, in which Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth play the title roles, and Charlize Theron is the evil queen. The fact that the two films are coming out in such close proximity led to some heavy changes to Mirror Mirror, down to the very title.
"I did want to use the name Snow White, but because the other one was coming out and they had the rights to it, we couldn't really go there because of what they call 'flooding the market,'" Singh told Vulture.com. "In the end, I'm happy with the title, although I would have loved for it to be something iconic, like just Snow." Singh added that, despite it not being his first choice, the title of his film works fine. "But Mirror Mirror kind of tells the tone of the movie, so I don't mind it," he said.
The tone of the movie? Well, Mirror Mirror and Snow White & The Huntsman are essentially polar opposites. The former is colorful, humorous and campy — a departure for Singh, who is best known for making nightmarish, R-rated films. The Huntsman, full of epic battle scenes and a more insidious villain, resembles Singh's earlier work more than his own Mirror Mirror does. "I just think [Mirror Mirror is] a charming movie, and that's the toughest tone to find on paper: How do you make something charming?" Singh said. "And I think everyone wanted me to do something edgy and R-rated, and I said, 'Nah, not with this one. I've done three R-rated movies already.' This is a charming film that's for a bigger audience than an R-rated movie."

Reminds me of Pixar/Dreamworks releasing similar films at the same time. Neither of the Snow White films catch my eye though.
