Margot Robbie had to punch Alexander Skarsgard during a sex scene they filmed for the upcoming The Legend Of Tarzan.

Margot Robbie Punched Alexander Skarsgard In Sex Scene

Director David Yates, best known for directing the last four Harry Potter films, was very mindful of bringing the story of Tarzan and Jane into the modern era. Part of accomplishing that was making Jane a more powerful presence, and less of a damsel.

“It was very important that we didn’t want it to feel archaic or dated where it’s like, tough guy has to save the poor girl,” the Skarsgard told Entertainment Weekly. “You have to feel that she’s strong and independent.”

Part of this “strong and independent” version of Jane includes a bit of sexual liberation.

Yates explained, “They’re doing this love scene together, and I said, `Just slap Alex while you’re making love, just kind of give him a punch.‘ It was sort of an earthy, sensual moment of her enjoying sex with Alex.”

Yates went on to point out that Robbie was the perfect actress to play this version of Jane.

“If you enter the jungle with anybody, you want to go with Margot Robbie,” Yates told EW. “She’s practical, she’s smart and she’s resourceful. She can take care of herself.”

This is not Robbie’s first time striking a male cast member. She memorably improvised slapping Leonardo DiCaprio during her audition for her role in the Wolf of Wall Street.

“I just go, ‘Whack!’ I hit him in the face. And then I scream, ‘F–k you!’ And that’s not in the script at all. The room just went dead silent and I froze,” Robbie confessed to People magazine last year. “I’m thinking, ‘You just hit Leonardo DiCaprio in the face. They’re going to arrest you because that’s assault.'”

The Legend of Tarzan is slated to hit theaters July 1.
