‘The Walking Dead’ To Get A Spinoff Series
The Walking Dead, the hit zombie apocalypse series, will be getting a spinoff series on AMC.
The as of yet unnamed spinoff will take place amidst the same zombie apocalypse featured in the original series and will have many of The Walking Dead’s crew on board. Creator Robert Kirkman will executive produce the new series and will be flanked by Walking Dead EPs Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert.
“We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters," AMC President and GM Charlie Collier said in the statement. "It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”
"I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” he added. “The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."
The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series by Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard. It follows protagonist sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) who leads a group of survivors across the zombie-ravaged countryside. As the storyline has progressed through three seasons, Rick has struggled to keep his ragtag group together, fend off zombies and enemy survivors alike while holding onto his humanity.
The Walking Dead will air its fourth season premiere on Oct. 13. The spinoff is likely to premiere sometime in 2015.
