Lady Gaga, Katy Perry Ask Fans To Support Japan Tsunami Relief
Celebrities have been using their star power to encourage fans to give back, after the devastating earthquake and tsunami rocked Japan last week. Lady Gaga has implored her millions of “little monsters” to purchase red-and-white “We Support Japan” wristbands from her website, with all proceeds going to tsunami relief. The singer also promoted Citizen Effect, where Google CEO Eric Schmidt and his wife Wendy have pledged to match the first $100,000 in American Red Cross efforts. Linkin Park's Mike Shinonda has designed a T-shirt for Music for Relief, which established a similar fund after the devastation in Haiti last year. Donations of $10 can be made by texting "MFR" to 85944.
Meanwhile, rapper Diddy, Conan O'Brien and Katy Perry, all of whom have well over two million Twitter followers each, are using their social networking statuses to encourage donations to the Red Cross. "EVERYONE KEEP TEXTING!! The quake & tsunami victims in Japan NEED US!!!" Diddy repeatedly announced on his account. "Imagine... if we ALL texted REDCROSS to 90999 we'd have raised over 60 million dollars for #JAPAN REFLIEF! BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE! BE!," Perry added on Sunday night. —EMILY EXTON
