Kyle Dube, a 20-year-old from Maine, apparently plotted to stage the kidnapping and rescue of teenager Nichole Cable, reported Fox News. The plan to make himself a hero went awry, leading to his alleged murder of the 15-year-old girl.

Cable’s body was discovered on May 20, a week after she was reported missing. It was located in the woods near a gas station in Old Town, Maine. Dube was indicted on charges of murder and kidnapping last Wednesday.

According to a police affidavit, Dube intended to kidnap and hide Cable, and later return to pose as her rescuer. However, while he was en route to the location he planned to hide her, she died in the back of his pickup truck with a ski mask over her head and her mouth duck-taped shut.

Once he realized she was dead, he dumped her body in the woods, Dube’s brother told police. Dube’s girlfriend informed police that he had told her that he threw Cable’s clothes out the window of his truck on his way home after his botched fake kidnapping attempt.

Dube, via a fake Facebook account attributed to someone by the name of Bryan Butterfield of Bangor, had been in regular contact with the slain teenager. Cable’s mother said that on the night her daughter died, she had said she was just going to meet a friend at the end of the driveway.

Dube is currently being held at Penobscot County Jail without bail, according to the Bangor Daily News. If convicted of Cable's murder and kidnapping, he could face life behind bars.

Re Kyle Dube… I would strongly caution all the media stating this kidnap gone wrong "accidental" death crap. I don't buy it and don't understand why a murderer's cover story isn't getting more suspicion thrown at it.
