The kids of the Louisville Leopard Percussionists have gone viral with their xylophone Led Zeppelin medley cover, which has even earned the endorsement from Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page.

Kids’ Xylophone Led Zeppelin Cover Goes Viral

Over 20 child musicians, ranging from 7 to 12-years-old, participated in the 6-minute Zeppelin medley cover, which includes Zeppelin’s “Kashmir,” “The Ocean” and “Immigrant Song.” While most of the children in the video are playing xylophones, there are a few using bongos, drums and keyboards.

Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page saw the video and gave it his official stamp of approval, sharing it on Facebook with the message “Too good not to share.” The video, which was originally posted in November, has recently gone viral and now has over 2.5 million views on YouTube.

Other celebrities have also helped the video gain attention, including Questlove of The Roots.

Who Are The Louisville Leopard Percussionists?

Bandleader Diane Downs said that a few of the kids in the band recognized Led Zeppelin music, but a majority of them had never heard about the rock band.

“Some of them knew what it was. I have some kinds who are really into rock and roll, so they knew what I was talking about, but most of them didn’t. You know, they’re little kids; they listen to what’s on the radio now. That’s why we’re playing Zeppelin, so they can hear the history of music,” Downs told BBC.

Downs added that the kids love playing rock music: “They loved it, they loved it right away.”

The Louisville Leopard Percussionists is a community nonprofit organization that provides musical fun for over 60 children, ages 7-14, from all around Louisville, Ky.
