Kevin Durant Proposes To WNBA Star Monica Wright
Kevin Durant, the Oklahoma City Thunder forward, recently proposed to Minnesota Lynx guard Monica Wright. Following her team’s win over the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, Wright happily confirmed the engagement news.
Durant and Wright, both 24, have known each other since high school, when both were standout basketball players in the Washington, D.C., area. In 2006, they met while playing in the McDonald’s High School All-American Games, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
While the friendship between Durant and Wright has widely been covered – most recently by Fox Sports North in May – the media has remained largely unaware of the romance that’s been brewing between the professional athletes. In the article, Wright commented on Durant’s $1 million donation to disaster relief in the wake of the Moore, Okla., tornados.
"I'm not surprised," Durant’s new fiancé said. "He's got a heart of gold, and anytime (something like) this happens, he's the first one who wants to help. He's a really compassionate guy."

Durant was a standout player at the University of Texas before leaving college early when he was drafted as the second overall pick in 2007. Since then, he’s led the NBA in scoring in four of his six seasons in the league. Wright played her college ball at the University of Virgina, setting a single-season scoring record before she was drafted as the second overall pick by the Lynx in 2010.
