Katy Perry Releases Music Video For New Single ‘Rise’

Perry surprised fans when she dropped the single “Rise” on Thursday night — her first single since 2013. The track was co-written by Perry, Max Martin, Savan Kotecha and Ali Payami.

The lyrics highlight the importance of never giving up when times are difficult and promotes staying strong and positive in the face of adversity — as the powerful beat drums in the background.

“This is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface. I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite,” Perry said in a statement about the single.  “I know that together we can rise above the fear.”

Joseph-Lee directed the “Rise” music video, which NBC announced will be used as an anthem leading up to and throughout the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Perry doesn’t appear in the video, however the video does feature multiple Olympians including: Michael Phelps, Simone Biles, Missy Franklin and Usain Bolt.
