Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’ Album Leaks Online

06/15/2013

Kanye West’s much-anticipated new album Yeezus leaked online Friday, four days prior to its June 18 release date.

West recorded his sixth studio album in Paris, only had a limited number of people working on his tracks and hasn’t so much as released a single. The only promotion he’s done for it was an Saturday Night Live performance of track “New Slaves and Black Skinhead” in May. No official videos were released, pre-orders allowed or pre-releases made available. The last thing the hip-hop star seemed to want was a leak.

Yet, last Monday, West had a Yeezus listening party at Milk Studios in New York City for roughly 100 guests that included members of the media. Those in attendance were able to use their phones to record the yet-to-be-heard sounds of Yeezus. At the event, West grabbed a mic to say, "I have this new strategy. It's called no strategy," reported Mashable. "This album is all about giving. This whole process is all about giving no f--ks at all." Hopefully West meant what he said, as songs and copies of the entire album can now be heard on YouTube and elsewhere on the web.

Before the album leak, Yeezus, West’s first album since 2011 Jay-Z collaboration Watch the Throne, was expected to sell 500,000 copies in its first week. Watch the Throne opened with 436,000; 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy with 496,000 and 2008’s 808s & Heartbreak with 450,000. It's uncertain how the massive leak will injure sales on his latest studio album.
