After almost two years of working on the screen adaptation of comic book, The Sandman, it seems that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has dropped out as producer due to creative differences.

While working with Neil Gaiman and David Goyer on the adaptation, Gordon-Levitt cited creative differences the production company, New Line Cinema.

Gordon-Levitt took to his Facebook to explain to fans why he was leaving the movie.

“And a few months ago, I came to realize that the folks at New Line and I just don’t see eye to eye on what makes Sandman special, and what a film adaptation could/should be. So unfortunately, I decided to remove myself from the project. I wish nothing but the best for the team moving forward,” he wrote.

Sandman was originally published under DC’s Vertigo imprint. New Line Cinemas entered the picture at some point during the last two years, after Warner Brothers gave the studio ownership of the Vertigo catalog.

Gaiman also took to his Twitter to talk about the actor. He tweeted, “And, for the record, my respect for @hitRECordJoe, is undiminished. Getting to know him was the best bit of the last round. He’s special.”

It seems that Gordon-Levitt wanted a more adult-friendly version for the comic book due to the success of R-rated Deadpool,
