Joan Rivers walked out of an interview for CNN while promoting her latest book – Diary of a Mad Diva – after becoming frustrated with the line of questioning.

Joan Rivers Leaves CNN Interview

On Saturday, Rivers taped interview for CNN’s Newsroom aired – running far shorter than planned. Tasked with interviewing the comic about her book and upcoming Broadway appearances was anchor Fredericka Whitfield. One of the early topics Whitfield wanted to cover was the reputation that Rivers' E! show Fashion Police is downright mean.

“It’s not mean. I tell the truth,” Rivers defended the show and herself. “I’m sure I say the same things your viewers say to their friends sitting next to them on the couch.

Whitfield, shifting her focus to Dairy of a Mad Diva, asked about her potentially inappropriate jokes within the book regarding Casey Anthony and Princess Diana. “Life is very tough,” Rivers explained. “And if you can make a joke to make something easier, and funny, do it.”

When the questions turned towards Rivers own wardrobe – her fondness for fur coats while she aligns herself with anti-animal cruelty causes – Rivers had had enough. “This whole interview is turning into a defensive interview,” Rivers said. “Are you wearing leather shoes? Then shut up.”

"I’ve made people laugh for 50 years," she added. "I’m put on earth to make people laugh. My book is funny."

In her closing declaration to Whitfield, Rivers spat, “You are not the one to interview someone who does humor. Sorry.”

Previously on her book tour, Rivers said President Barack Obama was America’s first gay president because Michelle Obama is a “tranny” and claimed that Kristen Stewart was taking her to court over a passage in Diary of a Mad Diva.
