Iconic comedian Joan Rivers was hospitalized yesterday after she stopped breathing during a routine procedure, leading her daughter Melissa Rivers to rush to New York City to be at her side.

Upon her arrival in Manhattan with her 13-year-old son Cooper Thursday, Melissa Rivers released a statement to apprise the public on her mother’s status and to thank everyone for their support.

“I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother," Melissa Rivers statement read. "She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers."

Rivers was undergoing an outpatient surgery at Yorkville Endoscopy, a clinic on the Upper East Side, early Thursday morning. A 911 call was placed at 9:40 a.m. from the clinic in which the caller said, “We have somebody in either cardiac or respiratory arrest,” reports TMZ. Rivers was deemed in critical condition by medical personnel and rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Thursday night, Rivers was put into a medically induced coma, reported CBS News. She is under a 48-hour watch in Mount Sinai’s intensive care unit. River’s condition is reported to be stable.

Rivers was coming off a busy week, offering her take on the red carpet fashions of Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards and Monday’s 66th Annual Emmy Awards on Fashion Police. On Wednesday night, Rivers was out promoting her latest book, Diary of a Mad Diva.
