It was two years ago that Jaime, Kelly, Tayla, Llyra and Bella were brought together in Long Island, and soon they realized that they had chemistry in and out of the studio.

“Tayla and Llyra, knew each other before the group, but besides that the rest of us were put together with the hopes that it’s gonna work out and we’re all gonna like each other because that’s one of the biggest things with girl groups,” Jaime told interview in an exclusive interview. “You can sound awesome, but if you don’t have the chemistry it’s…you’re done. So, we love each other, luckily, and it’s been awesome since. We’ve just been spending a ton of time together and working hard.”

Last month, The Janes dropped their debut single, “Can’t Let Go,” which they believe is both a perfect summer jam and a song that will be relatable to their fans.

““Can’t Let Go” is our summer single. We wanted a really cool song that was a good vibe for summer and beachy,” Kelly explained. “And kinda the story behind it is being in a relationship that you know it’s bad for you, but you can’t let go of it, you just can’t let go. Everyone has one of those.”

“We actually filmed it right in Long Island at Robert Moses Beach,” Kelly added of the music video. “We had the amazing Wrangler, it was incredible, the lifted pink Jeep, this hot pink Jeep. We wanted that and we drove it around the beach. Llyra got to drive it, she’s a good driver. We were a little scared, not gonna lie, we were scared.”

The Janes singers boast different musical interests, but the same goal of bringing their music to a broad audience. They believe that their diversified tastes and genuine friendship will set them apart and on the road to global success.

“Hopefully we’ll be on a World Tour, Madison Square Garden. I just see us being something huge because everybody that we meet they’re like it’s rare to see a girl group, and this maybe is what sets us apart, that they feel the love in the room,” said Jamie, looking a year ahead. “When we offer different ideas for a song that’s what makes it special because we all love different things and it makes it this huge, crazy new thing that if it was all just Kelly’s or Bella’s it would never happen.”

Q: Who brought you together? -

[Jaime]: We were put together about two years ago by our managers and our family and Matthew Laporte and Donnie Klang. They own a studio in Long Island and that’s where we’re based out of, called The Loft Sound Studio. And so we were there every week for two years, so we know each other super well. These two, Tayla and Llyra, knew each other before the group, but besides that the rest of us were put together with the hopes that it’s gonna work out and we’re all gonna like each other because that’s one of the biggest things with girl groups. You can sound awesome, but if you don’t have the chemistry it’s...you’re done. So, we love each other, luckily, and it’s been awesome since. We’ve just been spending a ton of time together and working hard.

Q: Who are your musical influences? -

[Jaime]: So, we’re definitely pop-driven, but I think what’s different about us is we each are inspired by completely different things, different artists from different times and we’re all different ages so what we grew up on is super different, our styles are different. We have this soul / R&B flair that kind of sneaks its way into all of our pop stuff. We have those tight, deep harmonies that I love to hear and some old school stuff. I’m personally influenced by The Beatles. I also listen to a lot of Etta James and Billie Holiday.
[Llyra]: I grew up loving Michael Jackson and I loved Britney Spears. My Mom is Spanish, so I grew up listening to Spanish music all throughout the house all the time.
[Tayla]: I’m definitely influenced by Amy Winehouse, and this new artist Allen Stone, who is unbelievable.
[Llyra:] I feel like we’re trying to bring something new to the table and not like emulate anyone specifically, just like be our own group.

Q: Do you have a dance background? -

[Jaime]: We have some dancing background in the group. Bella has been a cheerleader forever, so she is like super athletic and if we need a flip definitely Bella. Llyra’s been a trained dancer her whole life — ballet and jazz and all those techniques. I studied dance, Tayla’s great in clubs, bringing it down. But, I mean, we have choreographers and we practice weekly, all the time and we kind of find moves that we all feel good and sexy and comfortable doing. We love dancing together and that’s a big part.
[Kelly]: The dance studio is right in our recording studio so we’re always practicing all the time.

Q: What inspired your new single “Can’t Let Go”? -

[Kelly]: “Can’t Let Go” is our summer single. We wanted a really cool song that was a good vibe for summer and beachy. And kinda the story behind it is being in a relationship that you know it’s bad for you, but you can’t let go of it, you just can’t let go. Everyone has one of those.

Q: What was it like shooting the music video? -

[Kelly]: The video that’s now out on Vevo, we actually filmed it right in Long Island at Robert Moses Beach. We had the amazing Wrangler, it was incredible, the lifted pink Jeep, this hot pink Jeep. We wanted that and we drove it around the beach. Llyra got to drive it, she’s a good driver. We were a little scared, not gonna lie, we were scared. But it was amazing and we did another shot at night around the fire and we wanted it to go throughout the day. So, we started at the beach, fun, and we ended up at a party scene with Tiki torches and fire. We had our choreographers double up and all of their friends and family come and dance with us.

Q: What are your future plans? -

[Jaime]: In two years it’s kind of crazy to think how far we’ve come as a group and how many things we’ve done together and how many people in the industry we’ve met and that’s given us awesome feedback. So, to imagine what one more year is gonna be like… Hopefully we’ll be on a World Tour, Madison Square Garden. I just see us being something huge because everybody that we meet they’re like it’s rare to see a girl group, and this maybe is what sets us apart, that they feel the love in the room. And hopefully you could feel it too, you could feel that we all really support each other and love each other. When we offer different ideas for a song that’s what makes it special because we all love different things and it makes it this huge, crazy new thing that if it was all just Kelly’s or Bella’s it would never happen.
