Jake Gyllenhaal Talks Getting Naked For New Film
Look out for some naked Jake Gyllenhaal, coming to a theater near you.
The actor, 29, spent a good deal of his time without clothes on while filming his new movie Love and Other Drugs. “I was naked a lot in the movie. I was naked in more of it than was even in the final cut. A director’s cut? I don’t even know how that would be rated," he told British Esquire this month. He stars opposite Anne Hathaway, 27, with whom he was also paired with romantically in Brokeback Mountain, making the sex scenes a little more comfortable.
“Annie and I had already had sex on film," he said. "There’s something about the way Annie and I both work which is inherently very musical. It’s all about rhythm. There’s a rhythm to writing, there’s a rhythm to sports, there’s a rhythm to sex.” The two worked out the scenes beforehand. “We talked about what we thought was sexy, about what were the things that interested us, and through the discussion became pretty intimate with each other," he said.
The friendship blossomed over the course of the film. "I feel like she’s a comrade. The thing about Anne is that she develops her characters in absolute detail," he said. Having an older sister like Maggie Gyllenhaal helps him appreciate women more as well. "I admire her and continue to admire her," he said. "That might play into the reason I don’t have much of a problem letting the women I’ve worked with shine. I love women.” Love and Other Drugs will hit theaters November 24. –AMY LEE
