'In Living Color' Returning To Fox

Continuing with the trend of appealing to '80s and '90s nostalgia, the Fox network announced Friday that they are reviving the sketch comedy series "In Living Color" — nearly two decades after it last aired. Keenen Ivory Wayans, who was the creator of the original, will executive produce of the updated version and host the new episodes. Aside from Wayans, the show will feature a new cast of fresh, young talent, CNN reports.

That means fans expecting to see favorites Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx, who got their breaks on the original show, will be disappointed. "In Living Color" also launched the careers of Jennifer Lopez and Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who both were part of the show's dance troupe, the "Fly Girls."

The half-hour show, which aired between 1990 and 1994, was the first of its kind, given it featured a nearly all-black cast of comedians. "The iconic series put a hip, edgy spin on popular culture and featured characters and sketches that became part of the American vernacular," the Fox release said.

Two half-hour specials of the new "In Living Color" will air in the spring of 2012, though exact dates of these shows have not been announced.
