Frozen, Disney’s 2013 smash hit, will be getting a musical adaptation.

Frozen Musical

The Frozen musical adaptation was announced by Disney’s chief operating officer Tom Staggis. In addition to the planned sequel, Frozen will be at the center of a Frozen TV special for 2017 – and a Broadway musical.

“As you know, a sequel of Frozen is in the works,” Disney chief operating officer Tom Staggs said. “In the meantime Disney Animation is creating the first ever Frozen television special, which will air on ABC during the 2017 holiday season, and in the tradition of Lion King and Aladdin, we have a new Frozen musical slated for Broadway in 2018.”

Ahead of its Broadway debut, the Frozen musical will open outside of New York City.

Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopen, who penned the music and lyrics for the feature film, will write the musical

When Frozen hit theaters in 2013, it earned an impressive $1.27 billion at the global box office. The animated film, which featured voice acting from Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff and others, went on to win a pair of Oscars.
