Britt McHenry, a reporter for ESPN, has been suspended in light of a rant caught on video tape in which she repeatedly degrades a woman who works for a towing company while boasting of her own celebrity status.

Britt McHenry Suspended

McHenry’s car was towed from the parking lot of a Chinese restaurant in Arlington, Va., earlier this month. When she went to retrieve the vehicle at a local tow truck company, the reporter had some choice words for the employee at the front desk. Not only did she take jabs at the worker’s size, but also her teeth, her education and her general status while making self-aggrandizing statements about her TV career.

“Maybe if I was missing some teeth they would hire me huh?” McHenry said, “I’m on television and you’re in a f–king trailer, honey. Lose some weight, baby girl.”

Earlier on in the heated exchange, McHenry pulled the “celebrity” card threatening, “I’m in the news sweetheart, I will f–king sue this place,” adding later, “That’s all you care about is taking people’s money…with no education, no skill set. Just wanted to clarify that.”

Upon learning of the video, ESPN suspended McHenry, effective immediately, for one week.

Addressing the video and her subsequent suspension, McHenry took to Twitter to apologize.

“In an intense and stressful moment, I allowed my emotions to get the best of me and said some insulting and regrettable things,” McHenry wrote. “As frustrated as I was, I should always choose to be respectful and take the high road. I am so sorry for my actions and will learn from this mistake.”
