On Earth Day, Monday, April 22, environmentally conscious celebrities took to their personal Twitter pages to spread awareness on the 43rd anniversary of the green holiday.

Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron, encouraging her fans to take proactive measures to protect the environment, wrote, "Happy earth day! Important lesson: always respect and care for your mother. What are you doing to celebrate our amazing home, mother earth?"

Safe Haven actor and expecting father Josh Duhamel announced that he’d be giving away signed copies of his environmental documentary, Planet Ocean, to followers who sent him pictures of themselves being environmentally friendly.

Wes Craven offered a recycling fast-fact, tweeting, "It only takes about 6 weeks total to manufacture, fill, sell, recycle, and then remanufacture an aluminum beverage can. HappyEarthDay." Former Sabrina star Melissa Joan Hart was also informative, suggesting, “Don't let your car idle, bring your own bag and bring your own coffee cup! 3 simple ways to help protect Mother Earth!"

Bette Midler shared a heartfelt observation, writing, "Happy Earth Day! How far we have come since first one; how far to go. Our beautiful blue planet, our heaven, our hell, our home." Parks and Recreation actress Rashida Jones simply said, “Be nice to the earth today. And EVERYDAY. Reduce, reuse, recycle. And plant a tree. And thank a flower for existing.”

Comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres saved the environmentalist sentiment for the others, tweeting, “No better way to celebrate Earth day than to see it! Fly halfway around Earth from US to Australia.”
