Deborah Cohan, a California Ob/Gyn, coordinated a flash mob to Beyoncé’s “Get Me Bodied” with her friends and family as well as doctors and nurses prior to undergoing a double mastectomy.

On Friday, Nov. 1, a few days before her scheduled operation, Cohan took to her Caring Bridge page to talk about her virtual flash mob to “Get Me Bodied.” At 7:30 a.m. PT on Nov. 5, she asked that anyone who came across her post to dance while she pulled out her best moves in her “little hospital gown and bouffant cap” in her OR at Mount Zion Medical Hospital.

“My fantasy is for you to play the song and dance wherever you happen to be (in the kitchen, the carwash, subway platform, classroom, Labor and Delivery unit, wherever!) – ideally at 7:30 a.m. but really anytime Tuesday,” she wrote. “Nothing brings me greater joy than catalyzing others to dance, move, be in their bodies. Are you with me people?”

A couple days after Cohan’s flash mob, Beyoncé shared a link to the video on her Facebook page, captioning it, “Deborah, you are awesome!” The 6-minute video now has over 6 million views on YouTube.

Cohan was discharged from the hospital last Wednesday and is currently recovering from her surgery at home. She will be on medical leave until January.
