Denny Hamlin spun out during the final lap of the Auto Club 400 on Sunday, crashing into the raceway wall after Joey Logano brushed up against his car.

Hamlin and Logano had been battling for first place racing down the track’s final straightway. Although both cars spun out when Logano grazed Hamlin’s car, Logano didn’t suffer any serious damage. After Hamlin lost control and crashed, he extracted himself out of the badly damaged vehicle and then collapsed to the ground. With the two frontrunners out of the race after their crash, Kyle Busch ended up the victor.

After the medics made their way over to Hamlin, they were relieved to find the racecar driver awake and responsive. He complained of lower back pain, and the decision was made to airlift him by helicopter to the nearest hospital where he remained overnight.

Tony Stewart, another one of the race’s drivers, adamantly disapproved of Logano’s driving throughout the race. “He’s nothing but a little rich kid that’s never had to work in his life,” he told ESPN about the 22-year-old driver. After the race, he confronted Logano and the two began to shove each other.
