A crocodile trainer at the Samut Prakan Crocodile Farm and Zoo in Thailand is lucky to be alive after a crocodile bit down on his head while they were performing a show for tourists.

In the video above, trainer Pravit Suebmee is seen stroking the crocodile gently with sticks before the accident. In the seconds following, Suebmee is seen being bitten and then freed moments later after a fellow trainer was able to pull on the animal’s tail to distract it long enough for Suebmee to re-emerge from the crocodile’s hold. The crocodile rushes back to the water and Suebmee makes a quick exit.

Suebmee, a trainer with over eight years experience, according to the Bangkok Post, sustained head and neck injuries resulting from the bite, but was not seriously injured.

“This is the first time this has happened at our crocodile farm,” said Uthen Youngprapakorn, the owner of Samut Prakan, in an interview with the Bangkok Post.

Youngprapakorn also hinted that Suebmee had startled the crocodile when he slipped on the wet ground and his hand accidentally touched the animal’s cheek, causing the shocking attack.
