Cote De Pablo’s decision to leave NCIS forced producers to find a way to wrap up her character Ziva David’s arc in two episodes, which de Pablo agreed to film. NCIS executive producer Gary Glasberg is now telling fans of the CBS series that Ziva's exit will be something for the television history books and will be far from disappointing.

Glasberg took to Twitter to release an open letter to NCIS’ avid fan base about how they’ve managed to end Ziva David’s story, in addition to how all of the other characters on the show will be faring when the show returns later this month.

"The amazing resolution you're going to see is pretty damn heart-wrenching and we're incredibly proud of it," Glasberg wrote. "Prepare yourselves for a moment in television history. Images that will end up in the archives. I couldn't be happier with how my NCIS family stepped up and did some of the most emotional work we've ever done."

De Pablo announced in July that she had made the decision to leave NCIS after 8 seasons on the series. It came as a surprise to many NCIS viewers, who believed that once she survived the crash in season 10, she would be returning – despite the fact that she’d yet to renew her contract. One thing her departure definitely didn’t have to do with was money, according to CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves.

“[De Pablo] was offered a lot of money then offered some more money,” Moonves said, but could not be convinced to stay onboard the show, reported Newsday.

Finding the resolve to leave NCIS wasn’t a simple task for De Pablo and it didn’t come over night. “It was not an easy decision, not one taken lightly. I feel like I am leaving my family,” the actress told Latina magazine. “What I want to say most of all is thank you to the fans and to the people who have been so supportive of me and of the show, who have made the show the great success that it is."

With Ziva gone, where will the show go? “Plan on going back to Baltimore again with Tony,” said Glasberg in his open letter. “Meet some other agents, different fun characters, as they pass through our world in funny and fascinating ways. Watch Gibbs connect with his father. […] Experience a stronger Vance bounce back from tragedy and move on with strength and compassion. Watch Abby call on good friends to solve a challenging mystery. See the boundaries of Ducky and Jimmy’s relationship pushed as they face complicated decisions.”

Among the new characters that will be introduced is a “replacement” for the Ziva character named Bishop. The new twentysomething leading role is described as "bright, educated, athletic, attractive, fresh-faced, focused and somewhat socially awkward,” according to TVLine. “She has a mysterious mixture of analytic brilliance, fierce determination and idealism. She's traveled extensively, but only feels comfortable at home."

The NCIS season 11 premiere will air Tuesday, Sept. 24 on CBS at 8/7c.
