Cory Monteith, star of Fox’s Glee, was discovered dead early on Saturday in his hotel room in Vancouver, Canada. Monteith’s body was found after he missed his scheduled check out time at the Fairmount Pacific Hotel. Monteith was 31 years old.

“Mr. Monteith checked into the hotel in July 6 and was due to check out of the room today. There were others with Mr. Monteith in his room earlier last night, but video and fob key entries show him returning to his room by himself in the early morning hours and we believe he was alone when he died,” acting Vancouver Police Chief Doug LePard said in a statement.

LePard also stated that Monteith’s family had been notified of his passing and that an autopsy to determine cause of death is set to take place on Monday, though “all indications are that there was no foul play.”

Monteith, who was known for his positive demeanor, completed a short stay in rehab in April for substance addiction – though it is unknown whether drugs played a hand in his untimely death. He had previously been open about his struggle with addiction during his teenage years.

After leaving rehab at the end of April, Monteith was spotted being his cheerful self with girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele.

Michele and many costars of the original Glee cast and crew have yet to comment, but many celebrities have taken to twitter to express their sadness.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” reads a statement released on Glee’s official Twitter.

“I HAVE NO WORDS! MY HEART IS BROKEN CORY WAS NOT ONLY A HELL OF A FRIEND HE WAS ONE AMAZING MEN THAT I WILL HOLD CLOSE TO MY HEART FOREVER / I AM BLESSED TO HAVE WORKED WITH HIM AND LOVE HIM SO MUCH! MY HEART IS WITH HIS FAMILY AND OUR WHOLE GLEE FAMILY! I LOVE YOU ALL!” tweeted Dot-Marie Jones, who plays Shannon Beiste on Glee.

“At this time, please send nothing but love and light. This tragic news still doesn’t seem real to me. I love you Cory.” tweeted Glee star Harry Shum Jr.

“How sad to read about Cory Monteith passing away. What a shame. He was a lovely, kind, talented guy and will be missed,” said Neil Patrick Harris.
