Chet Hanks, the rapper son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, opened up about his struggle with drug and alcohol abuse in an Instagram post last week.

Chet Hanks Opens Up About Substance Abuse, Rehab

Chet, who often goes by his stage name Chet Haze, wrote, “With 50 days of sobriety under my belt, I can honestly say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I’m thankful for my family and everybody that cares about me, including my fans.”

“I’ve been blessed with the programs of AA and NA which allow me to rise above this disease. I’m learning to accept my faults and be ok with being human,” Chet added. “If anybody that sees this struggles with addiction, feel free to reach out. Thank you all for the love and support! GOD IS REAL!!!”

Accompanying the message, Chet uploaded a video, revealing that he came clean about his addictions because they were about to become public in a tabloid.

“A tabloid is about to run a piece on me being in rehab for cocaine addiction. It’s true and I’m currently 50 days clean and sober from everything—including alcohol,” the “Do It Better,” rapper said. “I don’t give a f–k what people think. F–k the media.”

Since getting clean, Chet has started to refocus on his music. Last week, he released a new song called “Karma Tattoo” and recently opened for Riff Raff and Scrilla King. He plans on releasing EP Shadow of the Spotlight sometime in 2015.

In addition to Chet, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are parents to son Truman Hanks. The Captain Phillips actor is also father to actor Colin Hanks and writer Elizabeth Ann Hanks from a previous marriage.
