On Saturday, a cerulean blue Lobster was found by 14-year-old Meghan LaPlante and her father Jay of the Miss Meghan Lobster Catch company, caught in one of the Lobsterman traps. Only one in every two million Lobsters carry the mutation for a blue shell. The mutation itself does not affect the Lobster in any biological way, only the color of the outer shell. Meghan named the rare Lobster Skyler before donating it to the Maine State Aquarium where it will join other blue Lobsters and an orange one as well.

The LaPlante family is a famous one in the area. Meghan herself is the owner of the makeshift company. Since she was twelve she with her father and brother have been capturing lobsters for two years now, and through her father, has learned how to run a business. She sells the Lobsters she catches, placing the proceeds in an account for college. Her local NBC affilate did a story on Meghan and her family just two years ago:
