Beard implants are apparently becoming all the rage for New Yorkers of a certain age, according to plastic surgeons in the area.

Beard Implants On The Rise

As part of the hipster look, beards have been growing in popularity as of late in hipster-dense areas – namely the Brooklyn borough of New York City. Unfortunately for some would-be hipsters, they don’t naturally grow the thick beards they see on their fellow “trendsetters” and heartthrob celebrities.

"Brooklyn is probably the nucleus of the trend, it's the hipster 'look' guys want,” Jeffrey Epstein, a plastic surgeon based out of Midtown Manhattan told The New York Post. “If you have a spotty beard, and you let it grow out, it looks sloppy.”

"Whether you are talking about the Brooklyn hipster or the advertising executive, the look is definitely to have a bit of facial hair," Epstein told DNA Info.

Epstein, who once only performed a handful of facial hair transplants a year, now reports that he does a few a week. Most often, clients want to achieve a look like George Clooney or Ryan Gosling.

Dr. Yael Halaas, also based out of New York, says the men who come in want their facial hair to resemble that of "musicians from Indy bands whom I mostly haven't heard of."

"We've been seeing these young guys in their twenties who want beards," Halaas added to The Australian. "Some men can't grow a beard, particularly certain ethnicities," she said. "Frequently, Asian men have difficulties, and some Hispanic men can also have a hard time to grow one."

The price of a beard transplant ranges from $3000 for a facial hair patching to around $7,000 for a full beard.
