Henry Cavill reprises his role of Superman in the first poster for Man of Steel sequel Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

'Batman v Superman' Poster

Cavill, 31, stands on a rooftop in the midst of a menacing rainfall as a desolate city looms in the background. Donning the iconic blue superhero costume, with his long red cape billowing in the stormy winds, Cavill looks as suited for the part as ever.

In the Man of Steel sequel, it doesn’t look as though Superman’s costume has had any major alterations from the 2013 flick. As in Man of Steel, in the center of his chest is Superman’s logo of an S-shaped icon inside a shield. In Man of Steel, Superman/Clark Kent explains to Lois Lane (Amy Adams) that it’s the Kryptonian symbol for hope.

Cavill is reprising the Superman role opposite Ben Affleck, who is making his debut as Batman. "I'm sure he'll be fantastic," Cavill said of Affleck’s casting. "He's got his own style, he's not copying anyone else. He's been tenacious in his career."

Back in May, along with announcing the film’s subtitle, Warner Bros. released the film’s official logo – the House of El glyph/ Krptonian symbol for hope inside the outline of a bat.

Zack Snyder released the first image of Affleck as Batman earlier in May. In the image, shot by Snyder himself, the actor is standing ominously in front of a batmobile.

Newcomers to the franchise, in addition to Affleck, are Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luther), Gal Gadot (Diana Prince/Wonder Woman), Jeremy Irons (Alfred) and Holly Hunter. In addition to Cavill and Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will be reprising their Man of Steel roles.
