The Bachelorette returned Monday night midway through last week’s rose ceremony, with Kaitlyn Bristowe pulling Clint away for a private chat after hearing some worrisome things from the rest of the guys in the house.

‘The Bachelorette’ Recap

When Kaitlyn confronts Clint, he fruitlessly tries to defend himself. Kaitlyn quickly points out that Clint is still more concerned with his relationship with J.J. than with his relationship with her. After realizing that things are over with Kaitlyn, Clint goes to find his bro. However, instead of getting moral support from J.J., his best pal turns on him, telling him to apologize to the other guys in the house. At one point, it looks as though the two friends, who admit to confiding their deepest secrets to one another, are about to come to blows. When Clint finally packs his bags and leaves, J.J. starts to cry, much to the amusement of the other men, particularly when he calls himself a SOB and then slaps himself in the face.

Instead of completing the scheduled rose ceremony, Kaitlyn decides to bring all of the rest of her suitors along to New York City.

In Manhattan, Kaitlyn selects Jonathan, Justin, Ben Z., Corey, Ryan, Tanner, JJ and Shawn for a rap battle group date. As could be expected none of the men are particularly skilled, but a few of them had a particularly difficult and painful time on stage with Doug E. Fresh. Kaitlyn dubbed it “the worst rap battle I’ve ever seen,” adding, “I don’t think there’s ever been a rap battle with two guys in khaki pants.”

Kaitlyn’s one-on-one date in New York City is with Jared, whom she meets for a black tie outing at the Met. The two have a romantic night, sipping wine near the Temple of Dendur and going on a helicopter ride that brings them near the Statue of Liberty. Jared also reads Kaitlyn a poem he wrote for her, which earns him a rose.

The second group date, attended by Ben H., Ian, Joshua, Chris and Joe, was on Broadway. The men were tasked with channelling Aladdin, going through an audition process with the Broadway show’s star and producer watching from the theater seats. Though Ian had the best voice, Chris had the most theatricality and was selected to join Kaitlyn in a featured-extra role during the evening showing. Afterwards, Kaitlyn brings Chris up to where the Times Square Ball rests at One Times Square, and there they share a romantic moment.

As the men fought for Kaitlyn’s affections in New York, they learned that one more would be joining the competition – Nick Viall. Viall, who competed on Andi Dorfman‘s season of The Bachelorette and subsequently humiliated her during the season’s After the Final Rose special, made his first appearance during the rap-battle date. Apparently, Nick and Kaitlyn struck up a friendship on Twitter, and now he wants to strike up a romance. After going back-and-forth on what to do, Kaitlyn decided to welcome Nick into her group of suitors – much to the existing suitors’ chagrin.

The Bachelorette airs Mondays on ABC at 8/7c.
