Angelina Jolie met with Queen Elizabeth II on Friday at Buckingham Palace, where she received an honorary damehood.

Jolie's honorary title was announced on Twitter by the British Monarchy’s official handle, which also provided a picture of the momentous event.

"Ms. Angelina Jolie was received by The Queen today when HM presented her with the Insignia of an Honorary Damehood," read the tweet.

Queen Elizabeth II presented Jolie with the Insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George in the 1844 Room of Buckingham Palace.

Receiving the honorary title of dame is the female equivalent of an honorary knighting. Jolie received the honor from the queen because of her work to end sexual violence, including founding the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative in Britain in 2012. As a U.N. special envoy, she’s continually lent her services to Britain’s foreign policies.

Jolie learned that she would be receiving the honor back in June. At the time, she said, “To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to. Working on PSVI and with survivors of rape is an honor in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine."

Jolie now joins the likes of Dame Helen Mirren and Dame Judi Dench, who’ve also received Honorary Damehood from the Queen. However, since Jolie isn’t a British or Commonwealth citizen, she won’t be able to use the title.
