Ailina Tsarnaeva, sister of Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhorkhar Tsarnaev, pleaded guilty to misleading a police investigation regarding counterfeiting.

Ailina Tsarnaeva Pleads Guilty To Misleading Police

Tsarnaeva was charged with misleading a police investigation in 2010, when she reportedly lied to detectives about her interactions with someone who used a counterfeit bill at a restaurant. She later said she omitted information because she was protecting the privacy of a female friend.

“The information given to the detective was misleading and ultimately took away from his investigation into this incident,” said Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney William Champlain in court.

Tsarnaeva appeared in a Boston courtroom on Tuesday to enter her plea deal, which does not include jail time. Instead, Tsarnaeva’s conviction and guilty plea will be added to her criminal record, eliminating any possibility of appeals. However, if Tsarnaeva has a run-in with the law in the next 30 days, she could be sent to prison for up to 2 and a half years.

Tsarnaeva is currently already out on bail regarding a separate charge in New York, where she is accused of threatening her boyfriend’s ex.
