J.J. Abrams ‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ Film Trailer Released

The 2008 thriller Cloverfield produced by Abrams, had brought about speculation of a sequel, after the film premiered.

Now, with the release of the 10 Cloverfield Lane trailer, it appears Abrams has finally ended the rumors of a Cloverfield sequel.

The trailer shows a character played by John Goodman holding a woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and man (John Gallagher Jr.) hostage in an underground cellar.

The trailer begins with the three characters listening to music, lounging around and doing puzzles at home, when the room begins to shake.

Winstead’s character can be seen fighting to escape when she finds the door to the cellar.

“Don’t open that door – you’re going to get all of us killed!” Goodman shouts.

The trailer ends as Winstead takes a look at the light shining through the door and sees something shocking. “Something’s coming,” Goodman whispers.

10 Cloverfield Lane was directed by Dan Trachtenberg from a screenplay by Josh Campbell, Matt Stuecken and Damien Chazelle.

Like the original Cloverfield, this sequel has been held under wraps. News broke in 2014 about a post-apocalyptic thriller directed by Trachtenberg, though under previous titles The Cellar and Valencia to keep the film a secret.

“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield,” Abrams told Collider. “The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

10 Cloverfield Lane is set to hit theaters Mar. 11.
